mama mary had her version of an american idol audition today. (or that scene in flashdance where jennifer beals has to do her thing in front of a panel of judges alone in a room big-ass room.)
except this time the stakes were much much higher. this was no tv show. no chick-flick dance movie. this was the real deal. it was mama mary walking the walk and talking the talk as part of the final step of her goal to become a real deal psychoanalyst. i think you call it a dissertation, or something like that which occurs in front of 12 bigshots after spending years and years (literally) writing a huge paper and taking hundreds of hours of classes.
and she made it! woooo hooooo!
not sure if there was confetti, a tiara, tears (ok there were tears) or that shower thing with the chair, but there sure is a lot of pride and relief and happiness all around this family, and among mom's peers i am sure. this has been a long hard road, and like all of the other amazing accomplishments in mom's life, this will surely be the beginning of a new chapter in a great journey. can't wait to learn what milestone she picks next!
love you ma.

disclaimer: this is not my mom, it's a future-cable tv lesbian in her breakout role as
alex owens, more than 25 years ago.
